I love straight ahead simple rock and roll with catchy hooks and harmonies. Check out Paul Barry and the Del Reys Vol. II to see what I mean. I'm always on the look out for great roots rock and roll and 60's style pop. Here's some groups I like: Cigar Store Indians, Webb Wilder, Southern Culture on the Skids, Walter Clevenger, and Two Tons Steel. Let's spread the word on this type of music. Who are your favorites? Help me find other bands doing this great style of music.
Two Tons Steel You've got to check out this rockin' outfit from Texas. They've been playing their hybrid version of rockabilly, country and swing for over 20 years. The members include: Kevin Geil on guitar and lead vocals, Jake "Sidecar" Marchese on upright bass, Brian Duarte on lead guitar and Rich Alcorta on drums. The group has developed a huge loyal following in Texas and beyond. Talk about loyal. 2016 marks 21 years of a gig affectionately called Two Ton Tuesday Live from the Legendary Gruene Hall. This summer long event has drawn more than 180.000 fans since it began its annual run in 1995. You got to be kickin' it to get people to come on a Tuesday night. And they do! Check out some of their videos on Youtube. Also take a visit to their website at http://www.twotons.com Below is just one sample from one of their CDs. track. These guys are on my bucket list to see live. Look for a new release coming in August 2016. There will be 10 new "Garage Songs" written in Kevin Geil's garage during practice.
